ACANTHITE (ARGENTITE)

 a large, superb, old-time group of stout, compound, pyramidal crystals with no matrix.

 
Batopilas District, Chihuahua, Mexico.
 
Measures 2-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 1 inches.

 

 


 
This is specimen is #825 from the Bement Collection at the American Museum of Natural History and it survives with a later AMNH label. This is a former Clarence S. Bement specimen. In a telephone conversation with Jamie Newman of the AMNH staff, she advised me that there is no longer a record of this specimen at the museum.
